Module 8

Improving Staff-Student Interaction in Challenging Environments

Portal Home » Timeline » Discussion Sessions »

This module provides a foundation in Motivational Interviewing, or MI, concepts and an opportunity to put those concepts into practice through an in-person workshop. The foundation in MI will create an environment that allows youth to disclose information about their risk behaviors, improve their motivation to change, and to seek advice on how to do so. The goal of this practice is to increase effective communications with adolescents. This workshop is provided in partnership with Possibilities for Change, LLC.

Learning Objectives:

Part 1: Examine techniques to improve knowledge and skills of clinic and school staff to avert risky behaviors in adolescents.

Part 2: Examine ways in which staff-student interaction can enhance school climate.
